This chapter described problem-solving. It described some general problem-solving principles and then described different ways for organizing problem-solving for information system design. Problem-solving is organized by defining phases and setting objectives for each phase. The kinds of phases and objectives involved depend on the kinds of problems to be solved.
Different types of problem cycles also call for different design methodologies and project management techniques. Prototypes and evolutionary cycles call for design methodologies that allow easy system changes. They also require project management systems that support controlled change.
