This chapter described the kinds of methodologies that are used in practice. It first suggested that organizations adopt a standard methodology, usually one that can be purchased. Then a number of representative available methodologies were described.
They included structured analysis, which is a flow-based methodology and HIPO, which is a function-based methodology. Then this chapter described SSADM, which is a prescribed methodology, and IEW, a computer tool that provides support to system development.
