Book: Introduction to System Analysis and Design.

Author: Igor  Hawryzkiewycz

Chapter:  Chapter  10

This chapter described an important part of detailed design – user procedure design involves a number of activities. First, it is necessary to specify procedures used to move and transform system data. These procedures are derived directly from the DFDs developed broad system design. Jobs carried by people within the user system must also be designed. The jobs are defined with two goals in mind, that is, they must carry out the function required of the user procedure and they must be designed to meet the human needs of satisfaction and involvement with the system. This calls for careful consideration of the skills required of a job and often calls for job enrichment.

Another important part of user procedure design is the computer interface. This defines how users in the system use computer system use computers. The interface must be designed to capture all the information without error and to provide, in an easily-read form, any information needed by the users. Two kinds of interface – on-line and off-line – were defined and the characteristics of each described.
