Evan Williams

Cofounder, Pyra labs

(Blogger.com)

Evan Williams is the cofounder of Pyra labs. It was founded in 1999. Originally it intended to build a web based project management tool.

It was 1998 when William decided to start Pyra; he’s also starting a company in Nebraska. He went to college and drop out because he didn’t want to get any degree. Then he moved to California to take a job with o ‘ Reilly, He work there for a few months but he taught himself web development. Then he became a web developer. He became a web developer about a year and a half. He also worked in various companies like Intel and HP. Then he decided to start another company.

The idea about pyra was about web-based project manager; it is all about building projects for clients and helps them organize their work and personal information. It is a web application where you put your things to other people. From that time he was thinking for starting a company and talked to his friend. Meg agreed with his ideas then they started building the product.

They started talking to a lot of people. Then they wrote a business plan. But it was a self-funded company for their first year. Then later on HP funded them. It was 1998 when they started working, and then it was January when they started technically. Meg his partner started full time in February and in May they started to hire their first employee. Finally they got their first office at SOMA.

They are one of the first companies to have a blog on their site.  It was March 1999 when they’ve got an idea about blogger then they decided to turn into that product. They thought it was easy to build but it wasn’t.

People started using Pyra and from that he got an idea to put blogger unto their site. They are focusing it to people who build websites as place for their collaboration. Paul and William built Blogger and it was launched.

It spread as fast as they had expected it. In late 2000, they built a new version with many more features. Blogger grew rapidly which make them decide to work on it full time.

Things that I’ve learned:

I learned that it was a kind of experience and if someone really wants to start a company then he can get it if he really works for it. Focusing is one thing that we should need to do for us to be able to perform the job very well. We should also love what we are doing. The last thing I learn is that if thing weren’t go right then we should have other options or alternatives.
