Joel Spolsky
Cofounder, Fog Creek Software
Fog creek was founded by Joel Spolsky together with his friend Michael Pryor in 2001.
After doing the startup Creek also does Joel on software that is one of the most widely read programming blogs. It is now one of the most popular strategies for software startups.
The idea for this startup came from a thought of people doing a lot of things so why not do the same thing.
They were motivated to start a company by Philip Greenspun; Spolsky was inspired by Greenspun work.
One of the problems that this startup encountered is they kept getting all kind of marketing ideas, wherein they didn’t understand sales and marketing.
People used Fog Creek because the product that they are offering to people is something that people need.
The unique thing about this startup is having a corporate culture where they value hackers.
This startup would be possible into a third world country because it didn’t need much funding but good programmers are needed to be able to do this kind of startup.
Things that I learned:
From Spolsky I learn that if you want to do a startup you need to create a web blog and have a lot of reader to read it.
I also learn that you don’t need to worry from competitors just do a better product.
The last thing I learn from them is that you need to have a better product for you to have more evaluations.
