Chapter 3

Quote: The Three managerial control levels are operation management, middle management and strategic management.

Levels of Management

There are three levels of managerial control and each of these levels holds different responsibilities and implications for developing management information systems. The Three managerial control levels are operation management, middle management and strategic management.

In operation management all the decisions may affect implementation in work scheduling, inventory control shipping, receiving and control of process such us production. Information systems designed for operation managers are valuable if they can provide information to help in controlling operation in a timely manner.

While in middle management, middle managers make those short term planning and control decision about how resources may best be allocated to meet organizational objectives and in decision making of middle managers are characterized as partly operational and partly strategic.

The last level of management is the strategic management wherein the strategic manager differ somewhat from both middle and operational management in their information requirements. Strategic managers also need to adapt a fast moving change regarding an information requirement. They also look outward from the organization to the future. Making decisions that will guide middle and operation managers in the years ahead in the organizations.

Strategic planners also need general and summarized information rather than a row data. They are also highly dependent information from external sources that supply new of market trend and strategies of competing corporations.

Finally the strategic planner needs qualitative information rather than quantitative information.
