Quote: There are seven concrete elements that are easily observable by the system analysts. The elements can reveal much about the way a decision maker gathers process, stores and shares information as well as decisions maker’s credibility in the workplace.
Observing the physical Environment
One way to asses the information requirements is to observe the requirements and the physical environment of the decision makers. The decision maker influences are influence by their environment.
§ Structured observation of the environment
§ Film critics use mise-en-scene analysis in which it assesses the single shot in the film.
§ STROBE (Standard Observation of the Environment) is a systematic in which provides standard methodology and standard classification for the analysis that influence the decision making. It also allows the system analysts to apply analytical framework and it limits the analysis during the cycle.
§ In using STROBE assessment it become easy for the system analysts to remember the anthology.
§ These are the seven elements that are easy to observe by the system analysts:
§ Office Location – shares information with other
§ Placement of the decision makers desk – exercises power in decision making
§ Stationary office equipment – stores information personally
§ Props – processes data personally
§ Trade journal and Newspaper – Seeks extra organizational information
§ Office lightning and color – Gathers information informally
§ Clothing worn by decision maker – exhibits credibility in decision making
Through the use of STROBE, the system analysts gain a better understanding on gathering process and use of information.
