Adobe Systems

Adobe systems were founded by Charles Geschke and John Warnock, the ones behind the establishment of this company. After leaving Xerox PARC Charles and John work together in order to develop the Postscript page description language which they sold to a buyer. During their stay at Xerox PARC they were able to develop a language called Interpress that enables a computer to operate with different printer. When they launched this language they noticed that XEROX PARC didn’t advertise this much so they started their own company called Adobe and changed the named Interpress to Postscript.

Apple computer licensed Postscript for its use in their product LaserWriter printers, which helped revolutionized the desktop publishing revolution. Adobe launches to the public consumers on 1986 and is the recognized industry leader in terms of graphics and desktop publishing software through its programs and its popular Acrobat applications, Photoshop and Illustrator.

The parents of Charles Geschke said that he shouldn’t let go of the opportunities offered to him specially his job at XEROX but Charles explained that he wanted to start a new company and work for himself.

He mentioned in the interview that Adobe grew bigger and bigger so it managing would give them a hard time. So they had ideas that could help them with the management of Adobe and came up to a plan to reinforce the current CEO, Bruce Chizen, the importance of innovation and the importance of taking some investment of the company and not immediately pouring it back into the current business.  His advice is like no other startups because he said that for those people who are thinking about a startup should be passionate in his/her vocation and work. Every person should value his/her life and not working for the rest of their lives.

Open Systems and Hummer Winblad

Ann Winblad, if we look at her background among the other people who done their startups, she is a multi-talented and intelligent person because she had 2 majors that she took at the College of St. Catherine that for me would take years to finish because she has a major in mathematics and business administration. Along her two majors she also participated in stage plays and interest in computer science. While she was taking her masterals’ degree she was hired and work for the Federal Reserve Bank. So she was a working student and she had classes during the weekdays and work on Saturdays.

After working for sometime in Federal Reserve Bank she decided to have her own company with along with her 3 co-workers that she met while working

for the company. When they started they had funding problems but with the help of Y Combinator and her brother lend them $6500 all in all. They had a request for proposal bid wherein their accounting knowledge would be put to the test by building a student accounting system which will be used in vocational schools in the state of Minesota. With the help of her 3 co-workers that work at Federal Reserve Bank for 3 ½ yrs. and working experience at Federal Reserve Bank, Ann was able to research and discover new thing that helped her work. Ann and her group made accounting programs and systems for small computers and had a talk with the CADO a group of computer people, Ann with the help of her credibility and accounting skills she was able to collect checks amounting to $10000 for the 15 people she talked to.

Along startups they also encountered problems they need to find a solution. One problem that Ann and her colleagues had was the fire in their office that burned all Ann things but didn

They had some problems and challenges to cope with. One of these problems was the fire started on their office. Fortunately, all their computers including software and hardware were safe but other stuffs of Ann was burned by the fire. They also had problems with pricing strategy and how they collect money from people. Prior to co-founding Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, the first venture firm to focus exclusively on software in 1989, she served as a consultant for clients such as IBM, Microsoft, and Price Waterhouse. Ann Winblad and her colleagues sold their company for more than $15 million.

Most of the startup companies, their main goal is to change the world and help people for their convinience. As Winblad said as a business investor, “Your job is not to tell, but to teach.” Also, she stated that if you have your own company, the best way to succeed is to think for the best strategy because in running a company, there is a possibility of failing and running out of money. So the best way to cope with these complications you should do the best gameplan or strategy.

Since Technologies are growing fast and changing over a period of time. Through the help of technology, people can have convenience on what they are doing, on what they are wanted to do and other stuffs. Nowadays, we have this ecommerce to help business people and customers to have transaction online. A good example of this technology is what Ann Winblad created, the Open System, an accounting software company.
