Craig Newmark is the Founder and Customer Service Rep of craigslist. A web-oriented software engineer by training, with 30 years of IT experience at companies such as IBM and Bank of America, Craig now spends his days working as a customer service rep at craigslist.
Craigslist is a central network of online communities, featuring free classified advertisements (with jobs, internships, housing, personals, erotic services, for sale/barter/wanted, services, community, gigs, resume, and pets categories) and forums on various topics. Craigslist is a
site that’s made life easier for millions of people.
I have learned from Craig Newmark that I should trust my instinct and moral compass. It is great to start a start-up from interest because you can think of creative ideas. This will help you to think creatively which will produce a product that people wants.
Case Study – WAIS, Internet Archive Alexa Internet
Brewster Kahle is inventor and founder of Wide Area Information Servers Inc., which was recently acquired by America Online, and founder of the Internet Archive.
Wais was an Internet publishing company that created tools and services to help publishers make money by publishing on the Internet. The company made "surf" software and software for those sophisticated enough to self-publish. It also worked with publishers to create an Internet presence, through the World Wide Web and, before that, gopher. Customers included the The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the Government Printing Office, the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the White House, all of which were interested in making their information available on the Internet.
I have learned from that I should pick a location for my office which will inspire me every day. I have also learned that my heart should be at the work.
